Here's where Anti-SJWs and MRAs get it twisted:
They see themselves as the hero.
They've been raised on the myth of the white male protagonist. They don't see the world as Rebels VS. Empire. They see it as Han Solo VS. Empire where he gets the girl at the end. Women are rewards for being the hero. So when women (the Rebels) face off against Patriarchy (the Empire), men are forced to examine their privileges and place in the hierarchy. They see themselves as the hero so any sort of attack on their privilege is seen as villainy.
Men see themselves as Winston Smith, fighting against Big Brother and the Thought Police. So any suggestion of watching language or changing behavior is seen as Fascist.
